The Sudan Archaeological Collection at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin

A collection of objects from Musawwarat es Sufra is part of the Sudan Archaeological Collection at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. The collection came to Berlin in the 1970s in the course of finds divisions relating to the excavations led at the site during the 1960s by Prof. Fritz Hintze. Objects include archaeological finds such as architectural elements, metal and faience objects and ceramic vessels, as well as plaster casts. Documents relating to the excavations, such as drawings, photographs, maps, inventories and diaries, form part of the excavation archive at the Department of Northeast African Archaeology and Cultural Studies.

The Sudan Archaeological Collection includes five sandstone building blocks with graffiti from the Great Enclosure at Musawwarat:

Block with an elephant graffito
